Balgarvie Castle stood near Cupar in Fife until demolition between 1938 and 1940 erased every stone. English troops under Sir John Pettsworth sacked the Balfour stronghold during the reign of Robert the Bruce, proving that even private pride could not resist royal war. It later passed to the Earl of Melville, but human memory has followed the stones into oblivion.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Balgarvie as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Balgarvie Castle was built in the 13th century by the de Balliol family, a prominent Scottish noble lineage. It is remembered for its historical association with the Balliol dynasty, which played a significant role in Scottish politics and the royal succession.
