Bachelor's Walk massacre

massacre

What is recorded here

On 26 July 1914, King's Own Scottish Borderers opened fire on unarmed civilians on Bachelor's Walk, killing four people and wounding over thirty. The shooters marched back from a failed weapons seizure while the crowd baited them, yet a royal commission later declared the soldiers faced no danger sufficient to justify rifles. Mary Duffy, Patrick Quinn, James Brennan and Sylvester Pidgeon died for nothing but pride and panic.
