Ayton Castle, Steading is a mid-19th century farmstead and stable in the Scottish Borders. The name Ayton Castle sounds like a lost fortress, but the surviving shape is a working farm where horses, grain and human labour met. The castle part may be memory, pride or a boundary marker in the local tongue. The steading part is still visible in function.
