Yellow Auldhame castle stood bright above Seacliff bay, a substantial L-plan house with corner turrets and square towers. It may have risen on the site of an older white church, and Cromwell’s men may have broken it open while sweeping north from Tantallon. The cliff took the outer wall, quarrying took the rest, and the wood-built village vanished entirely. What remains is a sharp-edged ruin beside a graveyard with no stones, holding the dead and forgotten details that grander castles never recorded.
