Auchmull was a square tower built in 1601 for the Lindsays of Edzell, marked by a heraldic stone bearing Lindsay and Wishart arms. It served as a farmhouse until about 1772, then men quarried its stones for neighbouring buildings. By 1881 the castle had vanished completely, leaving only a memory and a preserved stone at Edzell Castle.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Auchmull as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
