What is recorded here
This bronze commemorative plaque records: The Balcony House & Assembly Room This distinctive building was closely connected with the Georgian fashion for sea-bathing. It was constructed as two private houses in about 1750; the Assembly Room was added at the rear some years later, to provide an improved venue for social activities in Parkgate. The attractive balcony was added in 1868. Recorded plaque organisation: Parkgate Heritage Trail The Parkgate Society.
The Balcony House and its Assembly Room are significant as they reflect the Georgian era's enthusiasm for sea-bathing and social gatherings, serving as a key venue for leisure activities in Parkgate since their construction in the mid-18th century.
