This blue commemorative plaque records: Park House. Built as a private residence in 1715. Park House became the fashionable Albion Hotel in the early 19th Century. The Duke of Wellington stayed here in 1820. The hotel, with large pleasure gardens behind closed in 1865, since when the building has had many different uses.

Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, was a prominent British military and political leader best known for leading the coalition that defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815; his stay at the Albion Hotel in 1820 underscores its significance as a venue frequented by notable figures.
