What is recorded here
This blue commemorative plaque records: Arthur Michell Ransome (1884-1967) (Whitelaw House 1897-1901) author, critic and correspondent. "Good books are not written FOR anyone, they are OVERHEARD."
Arthur Ransome was a British author best known for the "Swiss Family Robinson"-inspired "Swallows and Amazons" series, which captures the adventurous spirit of childhood; he also worked as a journalist and wrote about his experiences in Russia during the revolution.
