This blue commemorative plaque records: Arthur Holmes (1890-1965) One of the most important geoscientists of the 20th century and author of 'Principles of Physical Geology'. He lived here in his early years and attended Gateshead Secondary School. Recorded plaque organisation: Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.
Arthur Holmes was a pioneering geoscientist who made significant contributions to the understanding of Earth's geological processes, including the concept of mantle convection, and authored the influential textbook 'Principles of Physical Geology'.
