Arnage Castle, East Lodge

Gate Lodge (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

East Lodge stands at the entrance to Arnage Castle in Aberdeenshire, performing the ancient job of marking where outside becomes inside. Its exact age remains unrecorded, but gate lodges have watched carts, riders and wandering souls for centuries. Perhaps it still judges who belongs on the estate and who must turn back.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Arnage Castle, East Lodge as Gate Lodge (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
