What is recorded here

Ardfert preserves a 16th-century armorial plaque set into the east vestry wall. Its small rectangular stone carries a heater shield Relief-carved with ermines above a saltire, marking the pride of some forgotten owner. That much is clear; the name and story behind the marks have faded.
