What is recorded here

Ardtornish Castle is a medieval hall-house built in the second half of the 13th century for the Lords of the Isles. It stands on a steep promontory jutting into the Sound of Mull, its thick basalt walls still rising five metres above the rocky ground. The interior remains choked with grass-covered debris, while a later restoration reshaped parts of the exterior. The castle was probably abandoned before the end of the 17th century, leaving behind a stark, seaward silhouette that still marks the edge of the loch.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ardtornish Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
