A sharp Byzantine-influenced sarcophagus sits on the Ardross terrace, its bright edges suggesting a late 19th-century sculptor rather than a 12th-century survivor. It reappeared after woodland clearance, as if the land had been holding a borrowed shape. Perhaps someone in Rosskeen made a copy so good it became the story, giving a dead chamber and a living castle one another.
