Ardmaddy Castle, Marble Quarry cut through local rock during the 18th Century, turning raw earth into building material. The quarry may have supplied stone for nearby structures or revealed layers hidden since the last ice age. Men worked the face with chisels, hammers and patience, reading the grain before striking. What they removed is gone, but the scar remains, marking the hill where human ambition took its share.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ardmaddy Castle, Marble Quarry as Marble Quarry (18th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
