Architectural fragment in Church Island (iveragh By., Loughcurrane Ed)

Architectural fragment

What is recorded here

One of three column sections lies in the chancel of St Finan's church on Church Island. The fragment belongs to County Kerry and still marks the place where stone, faith and memory stopped separating.
For descriptive account see O'Sullivan and Sheehan (1996, 316-22, no. 974, one of '…three sections of columns…' which lie in the chancel of St Finan's church). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
