Castle Ditch in Oxford hid sixty-four skeletons beside its Norman defences, most dating to the late 16th century. The excavation in 2003 pulled that forgotten neighbourhood out of the earth, showing how close ordinary life stayed to castle walls even after military power faded.
In 2003 excavations uncovered the Castle Ditch part of the defences of the Norman Castle. 64 human skeletons were found buried here, many dating from the late 16th century.
