Built by Sir Thomas Tresham in the late 16th century, Apethorpe Palace was later held by the Crown and is remembered for being a favoured retreat of King James I and his wife, Queen Anne of Denmark. Its importance lies in its historical association with the Stuart monarchy and its well-preserved Elizabethan architecture.
