What is recorded here

Five boulders circle a tree immediately north of two standing stones in Cloghmacow, County Cork. They have not moved within living memory, yet their purpose resists explanation. The stones do not point, align or exclude; they surround. A forgotten hand may have placed them to mark a threshold, protect a shadow or simply enjoy the shape of enclosure. The tree grew through the centre of that intention.

Immediately N of two standing stones (CO083-063001-) is an anomalous group of five boulders surrounding a tree (they have not been placed there within living memory). This anomalous stone group is included in the Inventory under the entry for the standing stones (Inv. no. 6574). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
