This blue commemorative plaque records: Church of St John the Baptist Anne Fisher (1719-1778) A pioneering educationalist. Published A New Grammar (1745). Ran a girl's school on Denton Chare (1745-1750) Raised nine daughters whilst working alongside her husband, Thomas Slack (m1751) They established the Newcastle Chronicle in 1764. Anne Fisher was a pioneering educationalist who published "A New Grammar" in 1745 and ran a girl's school, significantly contributing to women's education in the 18th century. She also co-founded the Newcastle Chronicle with her husband, Thomas Slack, in 1764, furthering her impact on both education and journalism.
