This brown commemorative plaque records: Adam Smith Halls. Planned by Provost Michael Beveridge (1835 - 90). Opened in 1899 by Andrew Carnegie in recognition of Kirkcaldy's greatest citizen Adam Smith (1723 - 90) author of "Wealth Of Nations". Recorded plaque organisation: Kirkcaldy Civic Society.
Adam Smith, author of "The Wealth of Nations," is a foundational figure in classical economics, known for his advocacy of free market capitalism. Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist and philanthropist, significantly contributed to public education and knowledge through funding libraries and educational institutions worldwide.
