Amy Carmichael stood behind that pulpit before she became famous, a young woman learning to speak in a small church on the Shankill Road. The blue plaque marks the years 1887 to 1889, when she ministered here before leaving for India and writing books that travelled further than most missions. Ulster History Circle fixed the plaque to the wall of Welcome Evangelical Church, keeping her name attached to the place where her voice first learned its shape.
