This blue commemorative plaque records: Site of Alport Lodge. In a siege of the town in September 1642 Lord Strange's Royalist forces fired cannon from here along Deansgate. Recorded plaque organisation: Manchester City Council.
Alport Lodge was a strategic site during the English Civil War; in September 1642, Lord James Stanley, also known as Lord Strange, used it to fire upon Parliamentarian forces in Manchester with his Royalist artillery.
