Aldourie Castle rose in 1626 as a harled, three-storeyed house in the Highland, later gaining north wing and turrets in 1850 before Sir Robert Lorimer helped restore it in 1903. Sir James MacKintosh, the historian and statesman, spent most of his childhood within those walls, suggesting a boyhood shaped by castle echoes rather than ordinary rooms. The building still stands in good condition, preserving the likelihood that a young mind first learned the weight of history through its stone corridors.
