This commemorative plaque records: Beech Cottage, 12 High Street. Built c.1708 and demolished in 1979. Home to 'atomic spy' Alan Nunn May in the 1950s, the site later gave way to Budgens' supermarket car park. Recorded plaque organisation: Celfunde Inheritance.
Alan Nunn May was a British physicist and atomic spy who passed secrets about nuclear research to the Soviet Union during World War II, making him significant in Cold War espionage history.
