Admiralty Pier Turret

Fort

What is recorded here

Admiralty Pier Turret stands on the western breakwater of Dover Harbour, holding two 80-ton RML guns that remain the largest installed in the United Kingdom. Built in 1882 with a wrought-iron frame clad in seven-inch armour, the eight-hundred-and-ninety-five-ton structure revolved on thirty-two rollers through four steam engines. Declared obsolete in 1902, it now sits closed inside the working port, its massive barrels still pointing seaward after more than a century of watched silence.
Admiralty Pier Turret is shown as a fort on the public map of Dover. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
