Achadun Castle stands in ruins on a limestone ridge above Loch Linnhe, where MacDougall warriors watched the water from thick stone walls beginning around 1290. The remaining north walls still rise nearly seven metres, enclosing a small courtyard that once held two building ranges. Dennis Turner dug through the layers between 1970 and 1975, uncovering doorways and stones that hint the site is older than the castle itself.
