This blue commemorative plaque records: Abraham Hilton, native of this town, and a notable personality and benefactor of the poor, lived here until his death in 1902, aged 87. His name survives in the Hilton Charities. Recorded plaque organisation: Barnard Castle Town Council.
Abraham Hilton was a prominent local figure and philanthropist from the late 19th to early 20th century, remembered for establishing the Hilton Charities to aid the poor.
