Mud, timber and ambition still lie buried east of Brookland Farm, waiting beneath ordinary grass. The ringwork and bailey castle belonged to people bold enough to shape a landscape into a defensible home, while the ring ditch and enclosures show how far that ambition reached. They are gone from sight but not from the land, preserved as a scheduled monument and denied to casual curiosity.
